Episode 1.1 - "MystiQue"
Location: Main Bridge, USS Yorktown
Timeline: Mission Day 04, 1204 Hours

"Helm, evasive maneuvers, pattern archer-three," Tobias ordered, "Mister Thompson, target their weapons array and return fire. I don't want to..." He was interrupted by a thundering blast as another series of disruptor beams rained against the ship's shields. This time, a more pronounced wave of energy swept through the ship, forcing many of those around the bridge to grab hold of something or risk being tossed from their seats.
Miranda's response to the orders were immediate. Get the ship moving while putting distance between them and the Keldon warship to gain the Yorktown maneuvering room. Using the warp fields to assist the thrusters, Miranda backed the Yorktown around the Asteroid, trying to place the chunk of rock between the two ships while keeping the more powerful forward phaser arrays on what they now knew to be an enemy ship.
Joe's hands flew with practiced ease across his control surfaces, coordinating the Yorktown's weapon systems and targeting the Cardassian vessel's weapons. If they could eliminate the Cardassians' ability to attack, they might still be able to end this without too much bloodshed. Joe keyed his controls, and multiple phaser shots converged on the enemy ship, weakening its shields for the torpedoes to follow.
When the Cardassian ship fired on the Yorktown the second time, Aniela's fingers gripped the sides of her console tightly. She widened her stance slightly to maintain her balance and watched the viewscreen. At this point there was little she could do, but she continued to run scans of the area. While her idea earlier suggested that the Cardassians could also be affected, there was a chance the interference could clear up enough to get a hail through...or something.
Robert was jolted against the engineering console during the sudden phaser attack. If there was one thing that was clear, the Cardassians were in no mood to talk. After the first blast, Robert took his seat and began communicating with main engineering, making sure the power grid and shields continued to receive priority. He hoped the extra power he'd diverted to the main forward phasers would give them a good enough kick to make the Cardassians think twice.
Torin had like the others been tossed from his seat and after he righted himself he decided that standing in a braced position was far easier. On his display real-time readouts of the Yorktown's systems statuses scrolled. Damage reports from the automated systems were the first to arrive followed by manually entered data from officers in the various regions of the ship. The data was not encouraging, too much more of the assault and the Yorktown would succumb, a humbling thought considering the Legacy classes recent development.
With her attention split between the fighter screen and the Yorktown's own issues, Amy had to focus to keep from letting it get the better of her. She made sure she knew where Thompson was firing his weaponry so Lexon and his squadron could stay clear of friendly fire.
There was a tremendous shudder as another volley of weapons fire slammed against the Yorktown's shields including a spread of photon torpedoes. An auxiliary console to one side of the bridge exploded in a shower of sparks as a wave of energy overwhelmed that particular section of the EPS network. Smoke began to issue forth, indicating that the automatic fire suppressant systems had already gone into effect.
Robert Hogan moved to the auxiliary console as the automatic fire suppressant system activated. He shifted control to engineering I console and deactivated the auxiliary console. =^= Hogan to Engineering, I need pair to work on an auxiliary console on the bridge asap.=^= Robert quickly moved back to Engineering I console and attempted to increase power to the shields.
It was clear the situation was continuing to escalate quite rapidly. Tobias was well aware of their orders to conduct a diplomatic mission to Cardassia Prime on behalf of the Federation and that engaging a Cardassian warship could very well place that mission in jeopardy. At the same time, however, the El-Aurian could not ignore the fact this particular warship had chosen to fire upon his vessel with clear intentions of disabling their primary systems...or worse.
"Continue firing," Tobias ordered, reaching over to tap a control on the arm of his command chair, "Bridge to Major Lexon...what is the status of your fighters?"
=^= We are lit and in the green, =^= came Drake's reply. =^= Ready to engage at your command; I don't think they'll be ready for us. =^=
"Don't put your people in any unnecessary risk, major," Tobias told him as another salvo rumbled through the deck-plating, "maintain your formation and stick close to the Yorktown. If we do somehow manage to get their attention, I want to be able to take advantage of it."
=^= Acknowledged, =^= Drake replied. =^= Waiting on your call. =^=
Still gripping the console, Aniela glanced down as it beeped. Apparently the scans had come across something. With her left hand still holding on, she used her right to access the scan results. Energy levels were higher than usual around the Cardassian ship - or at least it appeared that way. Perhaps it could be due to where they were, but perhaps not... Quickly Aniela started running a comparison with her database against the energy readings she was seeing.
Miranda growled low in her throat as the ship shook from impacts, causing the auxiliary console to erupt in sparks and smoke. Thankfully, she had experience dealing with heavy impact disturbances which allowed her more freedom of movement to focus on maneuvering the Yorktown with both hands. Her tail swept back and forth in slow, rippling curves.
The constant bombardment was taking a noticeable toll on the enemy vessel's shields; Joe cut loose with a volley of quantum torpedoes. He timed it just right: the torpedoes detonated against the shields, punching through and leaving a gap, and in that instant Joe targeted all available phasers and fired. The beams lanced through space to cut deep into the enemy weapons array; by the time the Cardassians' shields had shifted to cover the gap, their weapons were down.
