[[Bridge, Day 3, 1110]]

Though the official command staff, and Q Junior, had only been gone about ten minutes, it felt like an eternity to Aniela. From some of the looks she was getting - and trying hard to ignore - she got the feeling that others were wondering why she had been left in charge. Truthfully, she would've had no problem with someone else being in charge, but Tobias had specifically requested that she do so and she wasn't going to go against his orders. Not only that, but Aniela had the feeling they had plenty of more important things to worry about - namely the sphere that had been following them and the presence of a Q.

Miranda leaned against the helm console, facing Lieutenant Darvetti. Openly studying her, looking thoughtful. "What makes you so special that Captain Naros placed you in charge," softly, not realizing she spoke out loud enough to hear, in a tone that was more thoughtful, than insubordinate. Ears were perked up as her tail slowly swept the helm console clean from imaginary dust.

Aniela, doing her best to maintain composure, looked over at the Caitian who had spoken. "Lieutenant, I hope you don't make it a habit to question superior officers, particularly your Commanding Officer," she said, somewhat quietly, as she addressed Miranda directly.

"Only when curiosity overrides caution and when there is a need to clarify something, Lieutenant," Miranda gave a soft smile in return, tilting her head abit to the side, still watching Lieutenant Darvetti.

Robert Hogan was trying not to think about the breach of protocol on the bridge. According to regulations, as the highest ranking officer on the bridge and the Chief Engineer, Robert should have been left in charge. Not that he was really complaining, as he had his hands full with Engineering at the moment.

Torin maintained his focus on his console as the exchange between officers ensued, it wasn't that the conversation didn't have potential to become very interesting but he had learned to mind his own business among some species. Regardless, the Operations chief reflexively glanced up from his console once or twice just to study the expressions on the faces around him.

Feeling some butterflies in her stomach, Aniela knew she'd have to address the issue further to clear the air. So, a little louder, she said, "I realize that it's not usual protocol to place a lower-ranked officer in charge... However, for one thing, this ship has been receiving transfers as late as a few days ago and it's been a hectic process. Also, the events that recently occurred on the bridge have everyone rattled to some extent. I've worked with Captain Naros before and I'm sure he meant no harm in leaving me in charge temporarily. In the end, it's his decision and we will all abide by it. We need to work together to keep an eye on our current situation, stay on top of it, and perhaps even come up with some theories."

Miranda nodded at the explanation, even she would place someone she knew and trusted in charge if the situation was needed in flight department. Turning her attention to Lieutenant Commander Hogan, "Is the ship up to par and ready for another high warp dash, Chief?" Still leaning against the Helm Console so she was still facing rest of the bridge crew.

Robert stopped working vigorously on the engineering console to look up at Lieutenant Darvetti when she gave her burst. "Obviously this bothers you Lieutenant. While it is an unusual order, it is an order nonetheless. We are career officers in Starfleet and as such, are used to obeying orders. Don't worry about it."

Torin raised a brow and glanced between the Engineer and the Science Officer. Both were Human and likely of similar age, both had valid points. The Trill's curiosity was piqued and his interest in the conversations resolution deepened, as such he lifted his gaze from his console fully to observe the events transpiring.

Aniela became a little flustered at the Chief Engineer's response, "I just got the impression that some were questioning it, is all. But I appreciate your input. I'm sure we can all work together." Though most of the bridge officers had seemed to give her an odd look, she was glad that they also accepted the order and weren't causing difficulty. She wasn't entirely impressed with Miranda's comment, however.

He looked over at Flight Control to the Caitian Flight Officer. "Well, I would say we are as near ready as we can be on such short notice, but no surprise bumps if you please Lieutenant."

Miranda listened to the brief exchange between Hogan and Darvetti as she waited for her question to be answered and gave a slight soft chuffing sound with a soft smile when it came, "I'll do my best Chief, but the Nine Fates control that." Pushing off the helm for one more stretch.

"There was a brief moment of delays from command input to response after the instantaneous jump to here. But it cleared itself up." Miranda informed Hogan in her usual soft manner, feeling the eyes of Darvetti on her as she settled in her seat before the helm when it gave a chirp announcing that the high level diagnostics were finished.

Hogan listened to the Flight Chief with interest. He walked down to the Conn and tapped a command, opening up a small engineering command prompt. "Excuse me Lieutenant, let me see if I can narrow down any issues." The small information box on the conn panel was not very large, and it didn't interfere with the operations of the panel. It was an engineering interface that Hogan had worked on during his consultation days on the Legacy class project.

"I don't see any connectivity issues to your panel. I would say it had to do with our sudden arrival here," looking at the screen, "wherever here is." Hogan closed the information prompt and the conn panel went back to normal, as if Hogan had never touched it.

Miranda moved so Hogan could have unhindered access to the panel and watched with interest, liking the clean masculine confident scent he emitted. Nodded with his assessment as she glanced at the results from the high level diagnostics she just ran. She and the diagnostic agreeing with his. "Several light years from DS-9. Just a quick jaunt from here. If you go 268 mark 36 degrees, we're a lot closer to the Cardassian border. Close enough to spit on them." softly, yet her voice carried to all present on the bridge.

Glancing over at the Caitian, Aniela replied, "Technically speaking, our mission is, or was, to hold negotiations with the Cardassians... Of course now it seems we have that sphere to deal with it, whatever it is." It still troubled her, their encounter with the mystery sphere. That and Q Junior's appearance.

Miranda gave a soft chuffing sound as her tail wiggled abit, bobbing her head in an affirmative manner of acknowledgement as she checked the short range scanners for natural spaceborne hazards that could develope into a threat against the ship. "Merrrrr... That we do." ears slightly lower into her hair, but still swiveled to pick up the various softer sounds on the bridge.

The Ready Room doors suddenly hissed open as Joe walked back onto the bridge. Knowing that Nor'el wouldn't be far behind, Joe crossed to his tactical console and relieved the officer standing in for him. He knew that others on the bridge would be watching him and wondering about what had transpired in the Ready Room, but he completed a full check of his station before looking up again.

Xavier stepped out of the room behind Thompson and headed for the science station where Lieutenant Darvetti was at. Once he got to closer to where she was he spoke up so he didn't have to yell. "Lieutenant, what's our status?"

Though she had heard the doors open, Aniela hadn't entirely expected the Executive Officer to come up behind her. Swiveling slightly in her chair so as to face him, she replied, "Essentially the same, sir. No sign of the sphere, quite a bit of interference due to our position... Engineering and Operations teams are still working on compensating for the subspace vortices."

"Very well," Xavier said as he started back towards the center of the bridge.

Miranda relaxed in her position at helm, as her job was done and there was a lull in her duties that didn't require her immediate attention. Looking around the bridge, she took note of the return of the XO and Chief of Security. She listened to the exchange of words between the XO and Lieutenant Darvetti, watching them, paw/hands resting on the helm console, ready for immediate action. She was curious as to why the Captain and the Intruder hadn't returned to the bridge yet from the Ready Room.

Hogan noticed the XO return to the bridge and inwardly sighed relief. He didn't really know anything about this Darvetti character, what she was like or how she would react under pressure. What if they had been attacked while she was in charge...what would she do? Would she freeze? Hogan remembered his days as a Second Officer on the Oberth class USS Valiant, and even though it was a science vessel, the ole' girl saw her fair share of action.

Keeping a straight, serious look on her face, Aniela started a new round of scans, though they would likely prove to be futile. She also wanted to analyze the data collected from their encounter with the sphere; quickly she sent a message to the rest of the Science team that was on duty, asking them to get started on it. Although none on the bridge said anything aloud, Aniela had to wonder if they were relieved now that the Executive Officer and Second Officer had returned. Partly she couldn't blame them - she was new to the ship after all - but at the same time, it wasn't as if she was fresh out of the Academy...surely her rank of Lieutenant and her bridge certification had to mean something.

Even though he had returned to the bridge, Xavier still had his thoughts on the meeting that had just ended without any new information. He couldn't help but wonder what the captain and Jr were discussing and if it would be shared among the rest of the crew. Also along the same lines Xavier was concerned that with Jr's powers that he could transport himself and the captain anywhere without the rest of the crew knowing about it until it had already happened.

Returning his mind to the present situation, Xavier spoke up. "Mr. Hogan what's the status of being able to break through those subspace vortices?"

"The engines seem to be working fine now XO, and the EPS grid is back to optimal. We are still working on figuring out what's exactly happening with the interference from the vortices. Systems do seem to be coming back steadily though. We are still working on it sir." Hogan was scratching his head, nodding as he stared at the readout on the vortex interference.

Hogan tapped his combadge, calling his second in command. =^= Hogan to Lieutenant Breland. Are you tracking the subspace vortices issue from Main Engineering? =^=

[Main Engineering]

Hearing the Chief Engineer's voice, Mikaela paused and tapped her comm badge to reply, "Yes, Commander, I've been keeping an eye on it. We've been systemically isolating each major system to prevent interference while looking into a solution as far as cancelling it out altogether." Truth be told, they had made some progress, but not as much as she would have liked.

[Bridge]

=^= Thank you Lieutenant. Keep on it; we need to figure out a solution. Hogan out. =^=

Miranda gave Darvetti a slow wink and felinish smug look, before she returned her attention to the helm, easing the big Legacy class ship ten centimeters to the left to avoid a larger than usual anomoly heading in the ship's direction, causing it to drift by harmlessly on their starboard (right side).

Hogan turned to face the XO. "As I said Commander, engineering is working on the problem. As soon as we have something concrete I will let you know sir."

If nothing else, Aniela was glad to hear that Engineering seemed to be on the right path with the interference issues. Luckily they hadn't seemed to affect her all that much thus far. Unfortunately, nothing was particularly jumping out at her, science-wise...or at least not yet. Her thoughts drifted to Tobias, curious as to what direction his discussion with Q Junior was going in.

Miranda listened to the reports being given to the XO as she kept the ship away from the anamolies with gentle shifting of position and angle of the ship as she kept the ship within a few meters of the orginal position when they appeared here.
