Mission: Episode 1.1 - "MystiQue"
Location: Transporter Room 01, USS Yorktown
Timeline: Mission Day 01, 1248 Hours

ON: [[Transporter Room 01, USS Yorktown, Mission Day 01, 1248 Hours]]

Christian (PNPC) entered the transporter room at a rather steady pace. He'd felt like he had been doing a pretty good job staying on top of the pseudo-chaos which had surrounding the Yorktown's preparations for departure from Starbase 386 even going so far as to make keeping track of all related personnel movements a priority so that Captain Naros would be free to deal with other matters. Perhaps that is why it had come as somewhat of a surprise when he'd discovered the would be rendezvousing with the USS Champion to receive their new Chief Engineering Officer as well as their new Chief Science Officer.

"USS Champion reports they are standing by," the transporter chief said as Christian took up position just forward and to the left of the transporter control booth.

"Energize," Christian said, turning to face the platform.

Lieutenant Commander Robert Hogan watched as the transporter room of the Sentinel class USS Champion shimmered away, or rather as he shimmered away - his atoms being scattered across time and space - only to be put back together in the exact combination on the transporter pad of the USS Yorktown. Robert had arrived at Starbase 386 just a little late, watching the Yorktown speed away from the station into warp speed. Robert had been lucky the Champion was still docked, getting ready to depart for Betazed. Robert luckily knew the captain and was able to get a ride to catch up with the Yorktown.

To the right of Robert, Lieutenant Aniela Darvetti materialized on the Yorktown's transporter pad. She had received her orders at the last minute and although she left Deep Space 3 as soon as she could, the Yorktown had already left Starbase 386. Luckily she had happened across Robert and was able to also get a ride with the Champion. Now here she was...her first time on a Legacy-class vessel.

Robert noticed Christian and the transporter chief. "Lieutenant Commander Robert E. Hogan. Permission to come aboard."

Quickly following suit, Aniela offered a slightly nervous smile, "I'm Lieutenant Aniela Darvetti, also requesting permission to come aboard."

"Petty Officer Christian Bates and permission granted, sir...ma'am," Christian said with a smile, "Captain Naros has requested your presence at your earliest convenience."

"I'm ready whenever Commander Hogan is," Aniela replied. Though it might have been nice to have a little time to find her quarters, if she went to see the Commanding Officer now, she could concentrate on settling in and checking out the Science facilities later.

Robert stepped down from the transporter pad. "Well, let's not keep the Captain waiting. I trust you are getting our gear beamed over from the Champion?"

"Of course, sir," Christian replied. It had been awkward enough for them to discover they had just missed the arrival of two senior staff members by an hour or two upon departing the station, he certainly did not want to have to inconvenience either of them any further. "Your personal belongings should be arriving momentarily," he continued, "and I've already arranged for them to be taken to your quarters."

"Lead the way Mr. Bates."

[[Ready Room]]

"Enter," Tobias called as his desktop terminal went dark. He had just finished thanking the Champion's Commanding Officer for taking time from their journey and had a feeling their passengers, the Yorktown's new Chief Engineer and Chief Science Officer, were waiting just on the other side of the door.

Christian was the first to enter and immediately took a step to his left upon crossing the threshold. There would be little need for him to remain once he'd introduced the commander which meant it was probably best for him to make as discreet an exit as possible. "Lieutenant Commander Hogan and Lieutenant Darvetti for you, sir," he announced.

Robert entered the ready room and did his best to impress with a snappy stance at attention. "Reporting for duty sir."

Stepping into the room just after Robert, Aniela glanced over at the man as he came to attention. It seemed like a bit of overkill to her, but she did her best to keep a neutral expression. Her chocolate eyes glanced over at her new Commanding Officer, a man she already knew. "Also reporting for duty, sir."

"Thank you, Mister Bates, that will be all," Tobias told his yeoman. The El-Aurian waited until the younger man had disappeared back the way he had come before turning his full attention on the man standing before his desk. "Have a seat, commander...lieutenant," he said, motioning to the open chairs before him, "I must apologize for the inconvenience. Personnel have been in rather short supply as of late and I'm afraid we were not informed of your assignment until after we had already left the station."

"No need to apologize, Captain," Aniela responded once she had taken a seat. It seemed odd calling Tobias 'Captain', though the promotion was certainly not a surprise. "I received my transfer orders late and it just so happened that I wasn't able to get to Starbase 386 as soon as I had thought."

Robert sat down in front of his new CO, straightening his tunic and getting just a little comfortable. "That's life in Starfleet sir. We go where the wind takes us, so to speak."

"Indeed," Tobias replied. He hadn't had much time to review the commander's personnel record before their rendezvous which meant relying on this experience to gain a sense of the man's personality. Some might have easily dismissed such a comment as being too quick to let one's situation determine his or her course of action, but Tobias could tell from the man's demeanor it was quite the opposite. "Your service record seems relatively straight forward, commander," he observed, "I understand you've spent quite a bit of time aboard Excelsior-class starships prior to this assignment."

"Yes sir, I have." Robert's eyes started to gleam a bit. "The good old Excelsior class. I simply love that ship. I managed to increase warp capacity on the Gorkon to 10.1 for almost three milliseconds. Of course, we had to reduce speed immediately because the structural integrity field was beginning to break down and the bridge forward viewscreen cracked." Robert didn't think his new skipper seemed all that interested in his warp speed story. He decided to shift it down a bit.

"I served aboard the Orlando, an Excelsior-class vessel herself, for some time," Tobias said. A strange look seemed to pass over the El-Aurian's face as he spoke, but it was soon replaced by a reassuring smile. "Once you've had an opportunity to settle in, I would appreciate hearing your insights on the Legacy-class design," he continued before turning his attention to the woman on his left, "A pleasure to see you again, lieutenant. I hear you have been keeping yourself busy since we last spoke."

Aniela nodded, "And you as well, Captain. Congratulations, by the way, sir." She hadn't particularly kept in touch with anyone from the Orlando once she left for...various reasons. "Yes, I have. I took a position on Deep Space 3 and have been there ever since - mostly studying the Taevon Expanse."

Robert spoke up. "I also would like to hear about your time on the Orlando sir. And I would be happy to go over the design. If I may ask sir, I was not briefed on the current mission."

"Our orders are to proceed to Cardassia, where negotiations are currently underway regarding the provision of six transports full of relief supplies for some of the outer Romulan colonies," Tobias explained, folding his hands and bringing them to rest on the edge of his desk, "assuming all goes well, I imagine Starfleet will want us to escort those transports across Federation space to a rendezvous at Deep Space Four."

Upon hearing of their mission, Aniela contemplated the route they would likely be taking and asked, "Sir, will our course take us near the Badlands?" The area was known for its plasma storms and gravitational anomalies; if they were close enough, the Science department could perhaps gather some data...

Tobias offered her a small smile. "Barely a foot in the door and already concerned with the scientific opportunities we might encounter," he said with a slight chuckle, "I'm afraid we have no plans to make a close pass of the region at this point in time. We'll just have to settle for what long-range and astrometric sensors can gather for the time being."

"Well, sir, it is in my area of expertise...and I've not had a chance to study the Badlands before, so I thought I would ask. I certainly understand; I'll see what I can do to perhaps boost our sensors so that we can potentially get some meaningful data," Aniela answered. Perhaps a visit to Operations or Engineering later would be a good idea, even...

Hogan nodded to Aniela. "And we can certainly give you a hand, Lieutenant, by boosting the sensors so you can gather some data." Hogan turned to the skipper. "Captain, what are we expecting in the way of opposition to the mission?"

Aniela glanced over at Robert and offered him a brief smile and nod, "That would be appreciated, Commander." Maybe she would get some readings after all... That would certainly liven things up, at least for her.

"I am glad the two of you are coming up with something reasonable to make this a reality," Tobias said slowly, pleased to see both officers were already demonstrating how their departments could work together more efficiently, "The ability to work with those we serve alongside is an important trait and one I expect from members of my senior staff. Again, welcome aboard the Yorktown...I have a feeling our journey has only just begun."
