Meeting the Captain

Mission: Episode 1.1 - "MystiQue"
Location: Ready Room, USS Yorktown
Timeline: Mission Day 00, 0800 Hours

It had been less then a day since Xavier had arrived aboard the USS Yorktown. He spent the evening getting his quarters set up and making sure everything was in order. He knew that he still needed to meet with Captain Naros and figured he'd meet first thing at 0800.

Xavier finished up his traditional Earth egg and bacon breakfast he'd become used to and placed his plate back into the replicator to be recycled. He then strode across the room to get his uniform jacket and put it on making sure his commbadge and rank pips were correct in the mirror. He then headed out of his quarters towards the nearest turbolift. Once inside he had tubolift head to the bridge. Once at the bridge he silently strode across the bridge to the Captains Ready Room while silently taking in the bredth of the Legacy Class bridge. Once at the door Xavier reached out and pressed the call button and awaited for the Captain to acknowledge and invite him in.

Things had been rolling forward at a rapid pace ever since Tobias returned from the morning briefing only an hour prior. Admiral Tavez (PNPC) had given him thirty-six hours to prepare the Yorktown for departure, a relatively small window of time in which to gather any remaining crew and supplies before getting underway as well as the paperwork that accompanied such a logistical nightmare. It was a task Tobias fully intended to see carried out sooner rather than later.

"Enter," the El-Aurian called as he looked up from the steady stream of ship's status reports scrolling across the holographic display above his desk.

Upon hearing the invitation to enter Xavier stepped into the ready room and strode across to the seat opposite the captain. He stopped and came to attention "Lieutenant Commander Xavier Nor'el, reporting as ordered Captain."

"Welcome aboard, commander," Tobias said with a smile as he motioned for Nor'el to take a seat, "I trust your journey here went well."

"Yes sir, I had no issues with my journey here." Xavier said as he sat down in the seat the captain motioned to. "I'm really looking forward to serving aboard the Yorktown and getting to know everyone here."

Tobias studied the man before him as he spoke. There had been only a little time to review the commander's service record after Vice Admiral Livian (PNPC) had informed Tobias of the possible appointment which meant that, like so many other members of the ship's crew, they would be relying almost entirely on this meeting to form the foundation of their professional relationship. "I am glad to hear you say that, commander," Tobias told him, "and I can say with certainty we are looking forward to having you here. According to your service record, this is your first time serving as Executive Officer, am I correct?"

Xavier thought best how to answer for a moment before replying. "Technically speaking, yes this is my first time actually serving as Executive Officer." Xavier paused for a moment before continuing. "I was selected as Executive Officer of the U.S.S. Atlantis but that mission was scrapped before even leaving the shipyards for the first mission."

"I'm sorry to hear that opportunity didn't work out as well as you might have hoped," Tobias said with a slight nod, "You'll be happy to hear that will not be the case aboard the Yorktown."

Xavier felt relieved at hearing the captain confirm that this assignment would be longer than his last one was. "I'm glad to hear that and I'm very much ready to get to work."

"There will be a special briefing in about thirty-five to forty minutes that I'd like you to be a part of, commander," Tobias continued as he reactivated the holographic display and started skimming through a few of the headers, "Lieutenant Commander Thompson is our Chief Security/Tactical Officer and Second Officer. He served most recently under Vice Admiral Iluvar aboard the Pandora and has done some impressive work in getting our own security/tactical department in order. You may wish to consult with him at some point as well."

"I'll be sure to be at the special briefing, captain." Xavier paused for a moment to make a note on his PaDD before continuing. "I'll also be sure to set up a meeting with Lieutenant Commander Thompson after the briefing as well."

Tobias fixed his gaze once more upon the younger man standing before him as the holographic display continued to shimmer above his desk. This was the El-Aurian's first experience meeting someone who would be serving as his new Executive Officer and he knew it would take time for their conversation to move past the superficial pleasantries typical of most initial personnel assessments. Still, he didn't feel quite right sending the commander off without at least attempting to push the envelope a little.

"Is there anything I can help you with, Mister Nor'el," he asked, watching the commander's reaction carefully as he did so.

"I don't think there's anything at the moment sir," Xavier paused for a moment to organize his thoughts before continuing "Should I need something I'll be sure to let you know sir."

"Very well," Tobias said with an affirming nod, "then if there is nothing more, I will let you get back to settling in and attending your duties. Dismissed."

"Aye sir," Xavier said as he gave a brief salute and then headed for the doors. He thought since this was the first meeting that being proper would be more important. Silently he hoped that as time went along things would perhaps take a more informal tone from time to time.
