Mission:
Episode 1.0 - "Enduring Legacy"
Location: USS Yorktown Lounge
Timeline: MD04, 1230
ON: [[Lounge, USS Yorktown, Mission Day 04, 1230 Hours]]
As Joe walked into the lounge, he caught sight of a familiar face across the room. There weren't too many people that had transfered from the Pandora, and it was nice to see them when they did show up. Turning, he made his way across the room.
"Mind if I join you?" Joe asked amiably as he approached the Caitian. Though they hadn't spent much time together on the Pandora, they knew each other well enough from being on the Senior Staff and had at least conversed often enough.
Miranda looked up at Joe with a smile as she waved him to a seat. "I dont mind at all." Seeing a familiar face on the huge ship. "How's thing going for you? Getting settled in, Commander?" softly asks as she picks up her drink and taking a sip as she casually turned off the padds before her that held various crew Flight Re-Certs on them.
"Yes, I'm getting settled in quite nicely," Joe agreed as he sat down. "We had our first joint training session this morning; it went well, considering the nature of Marines and Fleet personnel. I heard you were doing your crew recertifications - how is that going?"
Miranda looked around as she swallowed her drink. "I am. Got few more dozen to do." Looking at him, "Even a few retakes to get that re-cert." She shook her head, muttering, "Some failed so badly, that I pulled them from Flight Status. Grounding them till they could pass everything with decent marks." Looking back at him, "Have you met the Captian, yet?" Wondering what he thought of the ship's captian.
"Yeah, I checked with him when I got aboard," Joe replied. "He seems like a fair-minded man; he listened well to what the Marine CO and I had to say, and he was willing to give us room to handle our departments. It'll be a bit before I learn more about him on a personal level, though. Have you met him?"
Miranda fidgeted abit, looking down at her drink, then back up to Joe, "Yes I have. I gave him his flight Re-Cert." Taking a drink of her drink. "I don't think he liked his score, even though he still passed." Settling down such info would get out. "You want to get Certified to fly shuttles?"
Joe grinned. "I don't know, it sounds pretty tough," he said. "I might be better off stealing one when I need to." Like any Academy graduate, he knew the basics of piloting - enough to get him through an emergency, perhaps, but not necessarily enough to match an expert pilot. As a senior officer, though, he supposed he should expand on his piloting ability.
Miranda seeing the hesitation in his manner, listened to him. "I'm sure once we leave port, all re-certs will be moved to the holo-deck." Took a sip of her drink, then spoke again, "How do you like your new toy to tweak and play with?" Waving a paw/hand to indicate the ship.
"A starship like the Yorktown is not a toy to play with," Joe said, affecting a stern tone as if lecturing an ensign. Of course, he spoiled the tone a moment later by grinning, showing his jest. "But that doesn't mean I can't enjoy it. The Yorktown's got plenty to work with, even if I haven't had a chance to test everything out. I've got to say, the holodeck facilities are top-of-the-line and great for training...or for recreation."
Miranda eyes lit up with delight. "I love the holo-deck. It's almost like being there. Only thing that ruins the atmosphere is that it can never provide the actual scent of being there. I just use it for recreation. No need for it to be used for business as we're still in port awaiting our next deep space mission." Giving him a soft smile. "You have any favorite Hologram recreation activity?"
Joe sighed. "I hate to sound like I don't have fun, but unfortunately training is all I've used the Yorktown's holodecks for," he confessed. "Though I did have a few programs I used on the Pandora; I swim sometimes, but I usually use my recreation time in the holodeck to run some Ancient West scenarios."
Miranda smiled at hearing him prefer the ancient times. "Sounds like me," softly placing a paw/hand gently on his. "Maybe we can share each other's Holo-program? Of course with each other..." Hoping she didn't sound to forward as she was curious what Ancient West was like. Maybe he would like her's.
With a shrug, Joe nodded. "I'd be happy to share my program with a friend," he said. Then, he sighed. "I've got some reports to finish up, though. Are you free this evening?"
Miranda looked at her ever-present PaDD, nodded, "I'm free at 1830 hrs. I've a brief to give to my department sub's." Standing up and grabbing her dishes to be recycled. "Where do you want to meet?" Giving him a soft smile.
"We could meet at Holodeck I," Joe said, standing as well. "I look forward to seeing you." He gave her a nod and smile, then headed off to attend to his reports.
