Running with the Wind

Posted on Fri Jun 29th, 2012 @ 9:29am by Lieutenant JG Miranda Blackfur

Mission: Episode 1.0 - "Enduring Legacy"
Location: Holo-deck

Miranda loved this program as it was all about relying on herself and could use all of her skills as a Caitian Hunter in the primitive landscape of towering rock mesas towering over vast grasslands dotted with verdant jungle forests, rivers, streams and hills of the rolling landscape.

The blazing yellow sun gleaming through soft heat haze making the dark blue sky pale and through the leaves of the towering trees dotting the soft duff covered ground in shafts of light cutting a path of light, lighting up the dark area under the vast spread of branches laden with big broad leaves.

She was wearing very little, just enough to be modest, but erotic if in more modern society of today. The leather belt holding her heavy flint knife that rubbed and slapped her thigh as she manuevered through the sun dappled underbrush.

Ear flickering and sticking up through her tied back hair and the beaded leather headband to keep the sweat from blinding her. Eyes darting about her to pick up the quarry she was hunting. She scowled as the Holo-deck deprived her of the scents of the decaying vegetation at her feet and the other myrid of smells of a living primitive planet. Sounds of Avians and the soft rustle of the smaller creatures that roamed about on their hunt for food and companionship.

Miranda paused, freezing in a comfortable position to watch an area in front of her, letting her perpherial vision watch the movement of the vegetation that wasn't moving in the proper direction that the breeze was blowing.

~~Gotcha~~ Miranda thought, letting herself give a feral smile as she slowly hefted the spear, to ready it for throwing. The stout shaft of the spear was worn where she gripped it as the sunlight flashed off the carefully cut flint spear tip.

An explosion of leaves and twigs as the big herbivore beast burst forth from the undergrowth, hooves pounding on the duff covered ground, kicking up clods to gain speed to get away from impending death from the hunter.

Miranda snarled loudly into the sudden stillnes caused by the beast exiting the undergrowth, quieting the Avians that was singing to each other. Small beast freezing in position to remain invisible from the threat that caused the big beast to throw caution to the wind to flee and the snarl of the predator in their midst.

Feeling her foot claws dig into through the duff to more firmer ground to give her the traction she needed to give chase, feeling the slapping of the smaller branches being brushed at her as she moved quickly into give chase.

The rush of adreniline, sharp deep intake of air, tensing and releasing of muscles at play as she sped after the beast, being more nimble, herded the beast to the desired killing grounds. Eyes narrowed in focus, concentrating everything around her for the sure footing to avoid the bigger branches.

~~Just a little farther to ya left!~~ Miranda willed the beast to take the desired path as she drifted to the right abit to herd the beast onto the correct direction.

Suddenly eyes squinting even more as they both burst out into sunlight of the clearing, She quickly hefted the spear and let fly with the momentuem of her run and the throw, watching the spear fly true, right between the ears, shaving a few mane hairs off the herbivore herd leader and thunk into a trunk of a tree with a satifying sound.

"Not today, Repected Elder," Miranda spoke softly, watching the big beast hesitate at seeing the spear appearing out of the tree trunk before it, and then veer off into the vegetation as she came to a slow walk from her exertion to retrieve her hunting spear.

Taking deep breath to still her pounding heart, she looked around the clearing as she felt the spear tip, taking note of the new chips in the cutting edge of the flint spear tip. She would have to get a new one soon as this one was getting too worn to be of any practical use.

She took off in the opposite direction that the Herbivore had taken, as it was getting late. Ears perking up as the tribal drums could be heard, calling those that were about to return to camp. She took off at an easy jog that ate the distance up....
