Episode 1.0 - "Enduring Legacy"

"Not often you get to go for a simple, stress-free run?" Miranda spoke softly with respect, yet dropping the formalities of addressing a senior officer properly. "Or is this pretty stressful, being evaluated after all you've been through?" Sounding a bit curious, looking him over, eyes always darting about catching every movement of the Captain and making a lot of notes.
Tobias gently brought the shuttle around where the Yorktown remained docked at one of the station's upper pylons before laying in a trajectory which would take them well beyond the areas of heavier traffic. "No one is too experienced to learn something new," he said as they continued away from Starbase 386, "so I expect you will be as thorough with your assessment of my piloting skills as you have been with every other member of your department."
"As others hold me to high expectations, the same standards apply to those I evaluate, regardless of rank or duty assignment. I would be failing at my duties if I didn't," Miranda replied, making more notes and checking off several more sections of the evaluation requirements.
She reached out and accessed one of the scanners at her station of second pilot and activated it. Even though she could see clearly what was happening on main pilot's console. Her paw/hand flew across the controls splitting her view screen into many sections filled with data constantly changing, then proceeded to make more notes. She noticed the slight drift to the portside, yet still following the programed flight course. She had to refrain from making the correction as a pilot, letting Tobias fly the shuttle since he was the one being evaluated. She made more notes in lieu of making them herself.
"Have you met the rest of the Senior Officers that I'll be dealing with," asking something she was concerned with.
"Several members of the senior staff are still outstanding, but those I have met seem to be quite experienced in their respective fields," Tobias answered as he made another slight adjustment to their course, "though I believe you are already familiar with a few of them. Lieutenant Commander Thompson, for instance..."
Miranda, remembering, Thompson from the Pandora, nodded. "I've met him on the Pandora, but never really had the chance to converse with him on a social level," she said, pausing briefly, "A short assignment, as the ship went into its major overhaul and refitting. Then they shipped me out here for this assignment."
"...and we're happy to have you, lieutenant," Tobias told her. He made another slight adjustment to the Cape Henry's course as they passed a demarcation buoy, navigating beyond the other traffic which would have made some of their certification maneuvers much more difficult.
Miranda made a few more notes as she looked over her console and his, watching him deal with the various Aldani System Flight Control Zones. She responded to an Aldani System Controller, confirming this was merely a pass-through flight for flight certification, as their chosen route offered opportunities to meet a wide range Certification Requirements such as dealing with different zones or Flight Controllers other than those on the base ship from which the shuttle originated.
"We're clear of primary system traffic," Tobias reported, "What would you like me to do next?"
"Head back to the Yorktown," Miranda replied, glancing at the time as she made another note input, "There is a very large asteroid that is just parked in space at vector 234 mark 018. I want you to do a landing on it. Then take off to continue back to Yorktown." Knowing that the Asteroid A-4563 had warning beacons on it to warn traffic in the sector and small station scanner on it to help monitor space traffic, she added, "We've been cleared for the landing/take off maneuver there." She wanted to see how he handled traversing a minor, but busy route into the system.
"As you wish," Tobias said. Hands dancing across the surface of his console once more, the El-Aurian brought the Cape Henry around to the course the lieutenant had indicated. The asteroid was already visible through the forward viewports and rapidly continued to grow larger as they approached.
