Simulation Update - 18 May 2013

Ladies and Gentlemen,

We have come to that point in the year where we transition into the summer season. Schedules change and real life makes different or additional demands upon our time including wanting to spend some of that time outdoors. I will soon be preparing to embark on yet another annual semi-Extended Leave of Absence lasting from the end of this month through the middle of August. This has been a yearly event for me since I first took up a summer employment position back in 2008 which offers significantly reduced internet availability. While I will still make every effort to check email and respond to questions, it may take some time for me to do so. I ask your grace in these matters and I hope you will all continue to help move things along in anticipation of upcoming events in-character.

That said, many of you have expressed uncertainty relating to our current mission, Episode 1.2 - "A Friend in Need...", and what opportunities might be available to your characters for post writing. My sincerest apologies for not having written up something like this for you all sooner. The USS Yorktown has finally arrived at Cardassia Prime where the Detapa Council is in the final stages of considering a resolution which would dispatch three transports full of much needed food and medical supplies to assist in the Federation relief effort within Romulan space. Our presence at Cardassia is an attempt to show Federation support for this resolution and to make ready to escort the relief convoy through Federation space if/when the resolution is passed.

For a majority of the ship's compliment at this point, the mission will focus primarily on shoreleave activity, character development, and reflections upon our experiences aboard the Yorktown thus far. You are all welcome to make use of the shipboard recreational facilities or to visit the planet's surface and experience some of the local culture. Note that this is still the Cardassian Union. While they no longer maintain an active military force to the extent they once did, the Federation presence is also greatly diminished from what it had been at the end of the Dominion War. There are those who appreciate what the Federation has done for the people of Cardassia and those who still see the Federation as an occupying force. Overall, attitudes toward the Federation are generally favorable, so you shouldn't encounter too much trouble unless you go looking for it...

As I said before, any questions or concerns you send to me will undoubtedly experience some sort of delayed response on account of my limited internet access. I should be able to respond to messages at least once a week throughout the summer. If, for some reason, you need a faster response time, please contact either Lieutenant Commander Thompson (Chief Security/Tactical Officer) or Lieutenant Darvetti (Chief Science Officer) and they will be more than happy to assist you.
