Simulation Update - 18 May 2012

Posted on Fri May 18th, 2012 @ 2:33pm by Captain Tobias Naros

Welcome aboard the USS Yorktown! Thank you all for your patience during this critical time of transition. Today's update will focus on the current status of our conversion to the new simulation website, our recent withdrawal from the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet, and what we can look forward to seeing as we move into the summer months. I apologize ahead of time for its length.

I see many of you have already logged into the new simulation website and taken advantage of the opportunity to explore what it has to offer. Some of you have even taken the initiative to begin posting about your character's arrival aboard the USS Yorktown, which I most appreciate. Please keep us involved in your character's experiences as they continue settling into their new life aboard the Yorktown including exploring the ship and meeting fellow crewmembers. There are a number of valuable resources available in the LCARS Database which might help make your simming experience that much more enjoyable. These include information about our embarked craft, a description of Operation Sunrise, and a listing of our sister simulations.

This seems like the perfect time to extend our sincerest appreciation to a few individuals who have really helped to make this transition possible. Captain Isabel Kersare of the USS Malinche has graciously agreed to continue hosting our simulation as we embark on our journey into the unknown. The Yorktownblue skin serving as our website's default appearance was designed and coded by Captain Benjamin Byrne of the USS Endeavour. I would also like to thank Captain Mia Drake of the USS Kepler for her work in designing our splash page image and to kikmequik for allowing us to use his new uniform designs aboard the Yorktown.

Some of you may recall my announcement on 3 May 2012 officially withdrawing the USS Yorktown from the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet community. In light of my resignation from the positions of Task force Commanding Officer and Information Services Coordinator, I was concerned my continued presence might put myself or others at risk of being placed in an awkward situation as far as community responsibility. It was also felt some time away from the community would allow us the chance to turn our collective attention to developing the USS Yorktown simulation. Our sister ship relationships will allow us to keep in touch with the simming world and provide us with opportunities for in-character cooperation with other simulations. I am currently in the process of working with Captain Isabel Kersare (USS Malinche) and Commander Erik Tsereteli (USS Sentinel) to determine exactly how this might play out both in and out-of-character.

What does this mean for us as we move into the summer months? We are currently engaged in our first mission entitled "Enduring Legacy" which focuses on the arrival of ship's personnel in preparation for the Yorktown's assignment along the Federation frontier. I am working on getting information into the LCARS Database that should provide a more complete picture of the events framing this first mission. Remember that the Yorktown's heritage rivals that of the Enterprise and that both vessels can trace their lineage back quite far in Earth's naval history. This means there should be plenty of opportunities for individual and joint mission post writing as well as personal logs. If you are having trouble coming up with ideas to post about or just want someone to write with, please do not hesitate to contact me (private message or email works best).

Brief teasers of our upcoming missions have already been added to the simulation website for those who are interested in seeing what lies ahead. While I have taken the liberty of creating these missions, I have not precluded the possibility of incorporating any mission ideas you may have. Anyone is more than welcome to submit a mission idea for discussion (again, private message or email is best). I would also encourage everyone to take a look at the information about Operation Sunrise which will hopefully be serving as the common thread around which our simulation will be operating for the foreseeable future.

Although we are no longer part of any formal simming community, I would still like to recognize the hard work and dedication of our members. I will be reviewing the player awards which were used by Horizon Fleet to see which ones (if any) could still be applicable aboard the Yorktown. Let me know if there is a specific award you would like to see given out on a regular basis and I will see what I can do about including it.

My door is always open to any questions, comments, or concerns you might have.

Respectfully,
--
Captain Tobias Naros
Commanding Officer
USS Yorktown NCC-88288
