The year is 2388. After the Hobus supernova sweeps a path of utter destruction through the very heart of the already beleagured Romulan Empire, Starfleet finds itself increasingly embroiled in an effort to maintain the delicate balance. The Federation is surrounded by powers which are struggling to deal with the after-effects of recent events. Within the borders of the Federation itself, there are those who are calling for a more aggressive stance when dealing with increasingly less diplomatic neighbors while others strive to remain true to the founding ideals of peaceful exploration.

Being the sixth Federation starship to bear the name, the Legacy-class USS Yorktown NCC-88288 was officially commissioned on 26 June 2388 and she set out for the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet Patrol Zone. The Yorktown's diverse crew has been assembled from the various reaches of the Federation and has come together with the intent of continuing one of Starfleet's greatest unsung legacies. Now she stands at Starbase 386 waiting to take on final crew and supplies before beginning her first assignment in a region which can seem ready to ignite at a moment's notice.
