Welcome to the USS Yorktown!

“Time is a companion that goes with us on a journey. It reminds us to cherish each moment, because it will never come again. What we leave behind is not as important as how we have lived.”
― Jean-Luc Picard

Being the sixth Federation starship to bear the name, the USS Yorktown NCC-88288 was one of two Legacy-class starships undergoing construction at the San Francisco Fleet Yards when her keel was laid in mid-2386. Lieutenant Jacob Warrington, perhaps most known for his service as Chief Engineering Officer aboard the Intrepid-class USS Frontier, was chosen to oversee construction and testing of the USS Yorktown. Warrington led his yard teams to incorporate new methods and advances learned from his own experience aboard the Frontier as well as by engineers aboard similar vessels already in the field. By late September, the USS Yorktown successfully completed her first warp stress tests under computer control and escorted by the USS Ashland. The results proved so successful they exceeded the expectations of yard supervisors and construction continued at a steady pace.

Starfleet officially commissioned the USS Yorktown (NCC-88288) on 26 June 2388 and she set out for the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet Patrol Zone. Her initial shakedown cruise followed a carefully planned route observed by the Starfleet Corps of Engineers so as to ascertain the vessel's performance under more realistic operating conditions. The Yorktown once again outperformed expectations during the course of her initial shakedown, arriving at Starbase 386 on 14 August 2388 to take on final crew and supplies.

My name is Captain Tobias Naros, commanding officer of the USS Yorktown and the year is 2390. There are many who feel the Federation has reached a crossroads beyond which lie two different paths. Some are calling for us to take a more aggressive stance when it comes to dealing with our less diplomatic neighbors while others are urging we remain true to our founding ideals of peaceful exploration. As an El-Aurian, a member of the "race of listeners", I have a somewhat more unique perspective of the world around me. The Yorktown's diverse crew has been assembled from the various reaches of the Federation and has come together with the intent of continuing one of Starfleet's greatest unsung legacies.

Now the question becomes, are you up to the challenge of joining them in that goal? Do you have what it takes to blaze new trails, brave the unknown, and face the hidden secrets of the "final frontier"? If so, then we'd love to have you join us as we carry on Starfleet's mission and have an interesting and fun-filled ride along the way.

I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you aboard and invite you to join our crew as we search out the unknown. Take a look at our open positions list for opportunities to join the crew or take a look at our sister simulations for opportunities to join other sims.

» Commanding Officer Announces Simulation Closure

Posted on Fri Dec 27th, 2013 @ 11:01am by Captain Tobias Naros in Sim Announcement

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am writing today with the difficult responsibility of announcing the closure of the USS Yorktown simulation effective 26 December 2013. This is not a decision I make lightly as I am aware it affects those of you who have chosen to participate in the Yorktown and its two predecessors over the past six years. I want to thank you all for your hard work and dedication in light of the many other commitments each of you have been responsible to.

Another major influencing factor in my decision has been my ever increasing involvement in the Fleet Story-Arcs over the past several months. While this results, in part, from my being the Director of Research & Development for the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet community, I must also confess I have found creative renewal in looking more deeply at the ways in which our stories could be connected to one another. I have admittedly always taken an interest in such cross-writing, but it has been even more appealing to me as of late, especially when I am able to build connections between simulations that I am serving on as well as with the Fleet Story-Arcs. It is for this reason I have chosen to step down as Commanding Officer of the USS Yorktown in order to assume a greater role in the development of a community simulation within the Eighth "Horizon" Fleet. I believe managing the community simulation will enable me to continue such creative development with a primary focus on the stories that unite our community.

At this point, the community simulation is still very much in the development stages and I would like the chance to take up this project more fully, or at least as fully as my schedule allows. My hope is to still finish off the remaining storylines we've planned for the USS Yorktown through the community simulation as posts on that forum. These mission posts would continue the planned development of the Story-Arc as well as allow for a more seamless transition both in and out-of-character. I would appreciate assistance from anyone interested in participating with these Yorktown mission posts when the time comes. It is my eventual plan in-character for Captain Tobias Naros to be appointed as Commanding Officer of Starbase 386 once the Yorktown has finished her first "tour" of duty under his command.

I have very much appreciated everyone's involvement in the USS Yorktown simulation and would welcome each of you to participate in the community simulation aboard Starbase 386. Please note, due to the unique structure of the community simulation, participation would not count toward your number of active playing characters in Horizon Fleet. If there is anything I can do to help anyone in their search for an active playing position, please let me know.

Respectfully,

Captain Tobias Naros
Commanding Officer
USS Yorktown NCC-88288

» Departure of Lieutenant JG Blackfur

Posted on Tue Aug 6th, 2013 @ 9:59am by Captain Tobias Naros in Out of Character

Ladies and Gentlemen,

At this time, it is my unfortunate duty to inform you that Lieutenant JG Miranda Blackfur will no longer be simming with us for the foreseeable future. Blackfur demonstrated initiative and creativity when contributing to this simulation. It was her idea to introduce a little conflict between her character and that of Captain Naros over the matter of pilot certification and I have been most impressed by the progress she made since joining us.

I hope you will all join me in wishing her the best in whatever the future brings. May she know that our door will always be open, should she ever decided to return to the Yorktown.

Respectfully,

Captain Tobias Naros
Commanding Officer
USS Yorktown NCC-88288
